Village History

"Continuity is the secret to any Community and Bromham has retained old families and traditions. "

Peter Paget, Chairman of Bromham Parish Council

Bromham has a long history as a settlement, with archaeological evidence stretching back to Mesolithic time. Wiltshire Council has produced a potted history of the village which we reproduce in its entirety here.

Bromham churches and chapels have their own fascinating history which Wiltshire Council has recorded here.

A photographic archive is also maintained on Wiltshire Council's website here.

For historians wishing to research the area further the Council has a comprehensive list of printed material here. These publications are not available from the council, so further investigation will be necessary!

Finally a list of newspapers covering the area is here.
